volvo xc90 and xc60
Choosing a luxury SUV is all about assessing your needs and finding one that suits them all, or gets as close as possible. Volvo has a lineup of SUVs that can fit almost every need that an individual or family would have. The big question is: which Volvo SUV is the best? We are going to compare the features of two of Volvo’s most popular SUVs, the XC90 and XC60. This will help you get an understanding of which of these SUVs is right for you. Volvo has a history of producing quality cars that last for years on the road, so making the right choice could mean a satisfying driving experience for the long term.

Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is basically the big brother of the XC60. There are many things that stand out but the biggest one is the size. This SUV boasts a 3rd row for extra seating and can comfortably carry around seven adults. This larger SUV does come with some extras depending on the trim option that you choose but they are very similar to the XC60.

Both come with very luxurious features. The XC90 is a vehicle that is suitable for a larger family, a grandparent that has their grandchildren often, a commuter that tends to carpool, or anyone that wants or needs more space in their vehicle.

There is a slight difference in gas mileage but that is to be expected with a larger vehicle. However, this model does have a hybrid engine option that can help. As far as starting price goes, the 2020 Volvo XC90 has a higher starting price at $48,350 due to its bigger size and availability of more innovative features.

Volvo XC60

Now we get to meet the younger brother of the Volvo SUV line. The XC60 has many of the same luxury features that the XC90 has. The biggest difference is space. This is not a 3rd row SUV. Even though there is not a 3rd row it can comfortably seat five adults and still have space for luggage or cargo.

The gas mileage is better but it does not offer a hybrid option. Another thing that is different is the price point. Because it is a smaller luxury SUV, the Volvo XC60 has a starting price that is about $8,000 lower at $40,150. Even with this, the features are very similar and you will not feel like you are getting that Volvo quality if you get the smaller SUV.

People that choose the XC60 would be commuters, smaller families, empty nesters, or those that want the quality of a Volvo but don’t need the space of the XC90.

How To Choose

Choosing starts with looking at what you need. Take an honest look at your everyday life. Do you need a 3rd row? Would you prefer a hybrid? What is your budget? Regardless of which you choose you can be confident that you are getting a luxury Volvo SUV.
